Mixed-Up Mother Goose Overview
Mixed-Up Mother Goose is a 1987 adventure game built on Sierra's AGI engine, familiar from titles like King's Quest. The player's task is to restore 18 disrupted nursery rhymes by locating lost characters and items scattered across the game world.
Control is handled primarily with the keyboard's directional keys. The interface is designed to be easy for younger players, with items of interest clearly visible. Simply walking into an object picks it up, though the character can only carry one thing at a time, shown in a corner inventory window. Inanimate objects are found indoors and outdoors, while living characters are met outside.
To solve a rhyme, the player must often lead a character back to a specific person or place. Some characters, like Old King Cole, require multiple items. Most of the 20 total items are placed randomly. If the player is unsure what is needed, approaching a character will display the required item in a thought bubble above them. A point is awarded for each completed rhyme.
Before starting, one of eight different player characters can be selected. The game includes a bookmark save feature, allowing progress to be recorded at any time.
