Flight of an Amazon Queen is a point and click adventure where the player controls Joe King. The game's tone and characters are deliberately styled after exaggerated B-movie tropes, featuring a comic and stereotyped cast.
After a plane crash strands Joe and actress Faye Russell in a jungle, the gameplay involves navigating numerous screens to solve puzzles. Interaction with the environment and characters is managed through a standard set of on-screen icons. Joe's journey leads him to a tribe of Amazon women, a captured princess named Azura, and a hidden base called Floda.
The primary antagonist is Dr. Frank Ironstein, a mad scientist operating from Floda. His plan involves using a device called the DinoRay to transform Amazon women into dinosaur warriors for world conquest. Joe is forced to retrieve a Crystal Skull artifact from a temple under threat to Azura's safety, navigating various traps and puzzles to do so.
Following a betrayal and brief imprisonment, Joe escapes with help from a rival named Anderson. The adventure culminates in a confrontation in a valley where Ironstein is stopped. Joe ultimately commandeers the scientist's Zeppelin to depart.
