The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy Overview
The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy is a side scrolling platformer for the NES. The narrative begins when a time traveling antagonist, Dr. Butler, abducts the pets Dino and Hoppy with the intent to display them in his zoo. To pursue him, the player character Fred Flintstone must locate and assemble the broken components of a time machine.
Gameplay involves navigating Fred through distinct environments like Bedrock and a jungle. He uses a primary club weapon that can be charged for stronger strikes. Defeated enemies leave coins that function as currency for secondary items, including projectile weapons and temporary power ups for flight or underwater movement.
Progress is structured around an overworld map presented after the initial stage. This map allows for non linear selection of subsequent levels. Scattered across it are basketball courts where winning a mini game grants access to the special abilities needed to advance.
