Tecmo Super Bowl Overview
Tecmo Super Bowl is a football video game for the NES that builds upon its predecessor. It incorporates real NFL teams and players from the 1991 season, providing a simulation framework.
The game expands its scope beyond single matches to include a full season structure. This encompasses pre-season games, a regular season with standings, and a playoff bracket following the NFL format, complete with a Pro-Bowl game.
On the field, each side fields eleven players, and control is given over player substitutions and play selection. The playbooks are customizable, offering eight plays during a game. Gameplay options allow for arcade-style play or more strategic, coach-oriented simulation for one or two players.
Statistical tracking is a significant component, with records kept for both teams and individual players throughout the regular season. This data is presented in rankings and end-of-game boxscores. Mechanical additions like fumbles and refined kicking controls further differentiate it from the earlier title.
