Nobunaga's Ambition II Overview
Nobunaga's Ambition II is a turn-based strategy sequel set in 16th century Japan, where players assume the role of a daimyo aiming to unify the nation. The core challenge involves managing provinces through agricultural and economic development while navigating diplomacy and warfare against rival clans.
Gameplay progresses in monthly turns, with an initiative system governing actions. Each character possesses a pool of Body Points, which are consumed to perform tasks and regenerate slowly each month based on political skill. This creates a challenging layer of resource management, as intensive operations require periods of recovery. Key annual events include tax collection and the rice harvest.
Military conflict is a central pillar. Players recruit, train, and equip units led by historical samurai, of which roughly 400 are represented with individual statistics. Combat unfolds on hex-based maps, first on a tactical fief map and potentially moving to a castle siege. Different unit types—Infantry, Cavalry, and Rifles—possess unique movement rates and special abilities, such as ambushes or devastating charges. Defenders gain significant advantages from fortifications, and attackers face a strict time limit and the constant drain of army provisions.
Leadership is persistent; if the player's daimyo dies in battle, from assassination, or naturally, a successor can be chosen to continue. Two historical scenarios are provided: one starting in 1560 with numerous clans at the dawn of widespread war, and another in 1582 focusing on Oda Nobunaga's rise, allowing players to lead his faction or oppose it.
