Amok Overview
Amok is set on a futuristic planet of the same name, where a fragile peace has been brokered between two massive corporations, NONLUN and AZTK, after a forty seven year total war. A mercenary organization called the Bureau hires pilot Gert Staun, whom the player controls, to covertly reignite the conflict for profit. His mission is to complete objectives in a way that ensures each corporation blames the other, maintaining the Bureau's lucrative contracts.
Staun operates a uniquely modified battle walker called the Slambird, capable of functioning on land and underwater. The vehicle transitions between these environments automatically at scripted points, without player input. It is armed with laser cannons with unlimited rapid fire and various explosive weapons, some with parabolic trajectories. Underwater, it uses torpedoes and propellers instead of missiles.
The gameplay involves progressing through linear levels of challenging difficulty, destroying targets like military bases, generators, and vehicles while avoiding hazards such as mines, infantry, tanks, and wildlife. Power ups are available throughout. The arcade style action includes tactics like using surprise attacks to create diversions, and the laser cannons can be fired in a wide ripple pattern for area coverage.
