Mickey's Safari in Letterland is an educational title designed for very young children. Its core activity involves navigating Mickey Mouse through six distinct global regions to gather letters that form words.
The gameplay is intentionally easy, featuring no failure state. Enemies like snakes or hippos pose no threat, and Mickey can safely interact with the environment, including swimming and surviving falls. Player interaction extends to a separate mode where selecting letters on a board triggers spoken audio samples.
During a stage, Mickey collects three diamonds, each containing a letter. Assembling these into a word prompts an audio and visual presentation. After this, he retrieves a large slab from the level's end. Goofy processes this slab through a machine to produce a final letter for the player to identify.
