Joy Mech Fight is a two-dimensional fighting game where players control robotic combatants against a single opponent. The robots are constructed from six distinct, floating parts that maintain a humanoid arrangement. Players utilize standard attacks alongside special techniques executed through specific controller inputs.
The narrative involves a scientist named Warunachi who has seized control of Japan's robots to pursue global conquest. His former colleague, Dr. Eamon, managed to preserve one robot from this takeover and has prepared it to confront the others and stop the scheme. This story is played through in a dedicated mode where the player begins with the Sukapon robot and unlocks others by defeating them, with optional tutorials explaining moves before fights.
Beyond the story progression, the game offers immediate versus matches and a player-versus-player mode. The structure allows for gradually expanding the roster of available fighters during the campaign.
