Legend of the Ghost Lion is a role playing game where the player guides a girl named Maria. Her journey begins after her parents disappear while investigating a cave that is said to house a mysterious white lion, a creature with a violent history in her village.
The core gameplay involves exploration across world maps, towns, and dungeon like caves. Combat uses a turn based, first person view system. Rather than a traditional party, Maria summons spectral allies, including the soldier Moja, to fight in battles. Character progression is tied to finding specific items to gain levels, not from defeating enemies encountered randomly.
Maria's quest leads her from the cave into a Dream World after an accident, where she learns she must travel to a Dark World to confront the lion. Key resources in the game are named Courage and Dream, which function as hit points and magic points respectively.
