Donkey Kong Junior Overview
Donkey Kong Jr. is a 1982 arcade sequel where the roles from the original are reversed. The player controls the titular character on a mission to rescue his father, Donkey Kong, who has been imprisoned by Mario.
Gameplay involves navigating four distinct stages, overcoming obstacles and enemies dispatched by Mario. The protagonist can defend himself by dropping collected fruit onto adversaries, with bonus points awarded for hitting multiple foes in succession. Movement options include climbing faster by using two vines or chains simultaneously and jumping over threats.
Certain hazards, such as lengthy falls or contact with water in specific areas, will cost the player a life. Upon successfully completing all stages, a concluding sequence shows the captive ape being freed and the duo escaping. The game then repeats the levels at a challenging increased difficulty.
Compared to the arcade original, some home console versions from the same era featured reduced content, lacking certain levels and animations.
