Donkey Kong 3 Overview
Donkey Kong 3 is a 1983 arcade game that represents a shift in the series, moving from platforming to an action-shooter format. The setting is a multi-level greenhouse, where the player controls Stanley the Bugman. His objective is to force Donkey Kong, who has occupied the structure, to retreat upward through its levels.
Stanley operates from below, using bug spray to target both the ape and the hostile insects he unleashes. The primary threats are swarms of bees, including Buzzbees, Beespies, and Queen Bees, which Donkey Kong agitates from hives. These insects, along with caterpillars descending on vines, also attack the flowers Stanley must protect. Donkey Kong contributes directly to the assault by dropping projectiles.
Gameplay involves jumping between the greenhouse tiers while managing these converging threats with the bug spray. Successfully repelling Donkey Kong upward eventually provides a can of super bugspray, which increases the weapon's range and accelerates his ascent. After being driven through three areas, Donkey Kong is briefly subdued with a beehive on his head before the cycle repeats, making the overall experience challenging.
