Conquest of the Crystal Palace is an action platformer where the player guides the hero Farron through a kingdom transformed into a hazardous maze. The setting is a once-prosperous realm now under the control of the war spirit Zaras and his forces.
Gameplay involves navigating five distinct stages, which scroll in both horizontal and vertical directions. Progression requires battling through varied terrain filled with enemies, culminating in a confrontation with a stage boss. The player begins equipped with a basic sword, but more potent armaments can be acquired during the journey.
Economic and support systems are integrated into the adventure. Defeated foes drop money, which can be spent at shops run by a character named Kim. These shops offer a range of useful items, including health restoration, extra lives, and weapon upgrades. For immediate tactical assistance, Farron can summon his dog Zap to attack enemies and create openings.
