Pipe Dream Overview
Pipe Dream is an abstract puzzle game where players construct networks to guide a substance called flooz. The flooz begins at a random point on the grid, and the objective is to direct its flow through as many pipe segments as possible before it encounters a break or an incompatible connection.
Players have a limited time to arrange seven types of pipe pieces, which appear in random order. These include straight sections, four-way corners, and cross-over pieces that allow horizontal and vertical flow. Any piece can be placed freely on the grid, and existing pieces can be replaced at a minor score cost, which helps correct layout errors or optimize the path.
The game introduces challenging complications in later stages, such as pre-blocked grid squares and openings along the screen edges that wrap the flooz to the opposite side. Scoring bonuses are achieved by creating loops through multiple cross-over pieces or by covering every available square with the flowing pipe.
After completing every four levels, a bonus round is played for points. This round restricts piece placement to the lowest open space in each column, resembling the mechanics of the board game Connect Four.
