Pipe Dream Overview
Pipe Dream is an abstract puzzle game where players construct pathways for a substance called flooz. The objective is to guide this flow through as many pipe segments as possible before it encounters a break or an incompatible connection.
Players receive seven types of pipe pieces in a random sequence, including straight sections, four-way corners, and cross connectors that allow horizontal and vertical passage. A short planning period precedes the flooz's emergence from a random starting point, during which pieces can be placed anywhere on the grid. The flow continues until it cannot proceed, often due to a single missing segment in an otherwise extensive network.
Gameplay becomes more challenging as certain grid squares become permanently blocked and openings in the side walls allow the flooz to wrap to the opposite edge. Strategic piece replacement is possible, though it incurs a point deduction. Scoring bonuses are granted for creating loops that utilize multiple cross pieces or for covering the entire playfield with pipe.
After completing a set of four standard levels, a bonus round alters the placement rules. Here, pieces fall to the lowest available space in each column, resembling the mechanics of a stacking board game, and offer additional scoring opportunities.
