Pipe Dream Overview
Pipe Dream is an abstract puzzle game where players construct a network to guide a substance called flooz. The flooz begins at a random point on the grid, and players have a brief period to place pipe segments before it starts moving. Seven types of segments are available in random order, including straight lines, four-way corners, and cross pieces that allow horizontal and vertical flow.
Gameplay involves strategically placing these pieces anywhere on the grid to create a continuous path. The flow stops if the flooz encounters a gap or an incompatible connection. A challenging aspect is completing long arrangements while a single missing piece remains; players can replace existing pieces at a slight score penalty. Bonus points are awarded for creating loops through multiple cross pieces or covering every grid square.
Progression introduces more complex layouts, with some squares permanently blocked and occasional openings at the screen edges that allow the flooz to wrap around. After every four standard levels, a bonus round occurs where pieces fall to the lowest available space in each column, resembling a stacking game. The core challenge is adapting to the random piece order to maximize the flooz's travel.
