Lemmings 2 Overview
Lemmings 2 on Game Boy expands the puzzle formula by introducing twelve distinct tribes, such as Egyptian, Circus, and Highland, each with its own thematic setting. The objective is to guide these tribes through ten levels apiece to reunite them and reconstruct a Talisman, addressing a threat to Lemming Island.
Gameplay involves navigating 120 levels with a vast skill set of over sixty abilities, though each stage uses a limited selection of ten. Skills vary significantly between tribes, encompassing new movement options like Pole-Vaulting and Ice-Skating, alongside novel terrain modifiers such as diagonal digging or gradual landscape raising. Four dedicated training levels allow for unrestricted experimentation with any skill combination to understand their functions.
The scoring system shifts from a simple pass/fail metric to rewarding the number of Lemmings saved per level. Players can revisit completed stages to improve their rescue count, with Bronze, Silver, and Gold medals awarded based on performance; saving every Lemming across a tribe's levels earns the highest accolade. Progress is saved automatically, and the ability to switch between tribes at any time means a player must be completely stuck in all twelve to halt advancement, making the overall structure fair.
