Ghostbusters II Overview
Ghostbusters II for Game Boy is a top-down action title that adapts its film license with significant liberties. The plot involves the villain Virgo the Carpathian kidnapping a baby named Diana, prompting the four Ghostbusters to pursue him through various New York locations.
Gameplay revolves around a team of two characters selected from the quartet of Igon, Ray, Peter, and Winston. While their abilities are identical, their equipment differs: the lead character uses a proton pack to stun ghosts, while the follower carries a trap to capture them. The core objective in each stage is to meet a specific ghost capture quota within a time limit.
Control is limited to the first Ghostbuster, with movement in four directions. Two primary actions are available: firing the proton gun and deploying the ghost trap. Additional characters, including unused Ghostbusters and their accountant Louis, appear as roaming power-ups. Contact with them grants items like vacuum guns or temporary invulnerability, often resulting in a character swap.
The game is derived from the NES title New Ghostbusters II but incorporates enough changes to be considered a distinct version. Levels are set across diverse environments such as courtrooms, sewers, and an art museum as the team chases Virgo.
