Shadowlands Overview
Shadowlands is an isometric role-playing game where the player controls a party of four characters. Their objective is to bring peace to the land by navigating sixteen distinct levels.
A central mechanic involves managing light sources, as the environment is otherwise completely dark. Characters carry torches that illuminate a circular area around them, requiring players to move the light deliberately to uncover hidden sections of the map. This use of light also has tactical implications, as it can repel certain creatures while simultaneously attracting others.
Party management offers strategic flexibility. The group can be divided to undertake separate tasks or explore different paths simultaneously, which is presented as a time-saving measure. As the adventure progresses, magical abilities become available and can be chained together in rapid succession to overcome the various monsters and traps that populate the levels. The overall experience is challenging, demanding careful navigation and resource management in a hostile, obscured world.
