Maniac Mansion Overview
Maniac Mansion is a game where players attempt to rescue a missing girl named Sandy from the Edison family home. The setting is a local mansion rumored to involve strange experiments and odd creatures, with a backstory involving a meteorite impact decades prior.
Gameplay involves controlling a team of three characters, beginning with Dave and two others selected from a group of students. The player can switch between these characters freely, and each possesses a distinct personality that influences how they interact with the environment. Puzzles often have multiple solutions depending on which character is used to attempt them.
Actions are performed by combining on screen verbs with objects in the environment. A challenging element is introduced if a character is captured by the residents, as they are imprisoned and must be freed by another team member. The digital release includes both the original and an enhanced version of the game.
