Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet Overview
Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet is a horror adventure title based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft. Its narrative centers on a journalist named John T. Parker, who visits the town of Illsmouth in 1910 to investigate the mysterious insanity of a scientist seventy six years prior, an event linked to the return of Halley's comet.
The game originally utilized a keyboard driven interface where specific keys corresponded to actions like examining or using items. A later CD version introduced a mouse driven alternative, along with enhanced graphics and full voice acting not present in the earlier floppy disk release. Both versions are included in the GOG.com package.
Visual presentation during conversations features vector based cut scenes with close ups of character portraits, a technique seen in other Infogrames games. The CD edition also contains an extra Museum section where players can view various artifacts and artwork inspired by the Lovecraftian mythos.
