Conan: The Cimmerian Overview
Conan: The Cimmerian is structured around three distinct visual modes of interaction. These include an overland map for travel between fixed points, a side-view presentation for navigating towns, and a separate screen for engagements and interior searches. The player can access character statistics and inventory at any point.
The narrative premise involves Conan's quest for retribution after his village is destroyed and his wife killed, an event he traces to the wizard Thoth Amon. This motivates his journey to locations like Shadizar in the land of Hyborea.
Activities are split between exploration and real-time combat. Exploration involves moving through towns to interact with non-player characters for information, accepting tasks at temples, visiting shops and inns, and searching buildings for concealed items. Combat is a direct, one-on-one affair where Conan and an opponent exchange attacks without defensive options until one is defeated; victorious fights allow looting the fallen foe. Sword techniques begin limited but can be expanded through training.
