Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse Overview
Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse is an action role-playing game whose narrative and mechanics are derived from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Al-Qadim campaign setting. The player controls a protagonist who has forsaken a life of noble comfort to train as a Corsair under the tutelage of Master Sinbar, motivated by the prospect of marrying the Caliph's daughter, Kara.
Gameplay is structured around two primary modes. In settlements and other safe zones, interaction with non-player characters occurs through dialogue trees, where the player's choices can reflect different moral stances. The other mode involves navigating dungeons, where combat is action-oriented. In these encounters, the character can engage foes with melee weapons, a slingshot, or magical spells.
Progression is governed by an experience system where defeating enemies grants points. Accumulating enough experience allows the character to level up, at which point core statistics can be improved. Certain attack capabilities can also be enhanced permanently by finding specific items or undergoing training.
