Albion Overview
Albion is a party based role playing game set in the year 2227. The player assumes the role of space pilot Tom Driscoll, who crash lands on a planet believed to be barren. He discovers it is instead a vibrant world with multiple intelligent races, setting the stage for exploration and a quest to return to his ship, the Toronto.
Gameplay involves controlling a group of up to six characters, each with distinct combat styles and sometimes magical abilities. These companions are recruited throughout the world for narrative purposes. Character progression is achieved through experience points earned from combat or puzzle solving, supplemented by a separate pool of training points used to improve specific skills.
The game world is navigated through two distinct visual modes. A first person three dimensional perspective is used for towns and dungeons, while a top down two dimensional view depicts the overworld and smaller locations. Interaction and movement in both modes can be managed with either the mouse or keyboard.
Enemies are encountered directly on the map in either view, triggering a turn based combat system. Fights take place on a two dimensional grid of squares. Advancing the story relies on a topic based dialogue system for gathering information and accepting quests.
