Amberstar Overview
Amberstar is a role playing game set in the world of Lyramion, where a sorcerer seeks to free the corrupted Lord Tarbos from imprisonment. The player's task is to locate the thirteen fragments of the Amberstar artifact to prevent this. Exploration is conducted from a top down perspective across the land and inside buildings, while cities and dungeons shift to a first person view.
Gameplay begins with the creation of a single protagonist whose initial attributes are randomly determined. This character, along with any class less companions found during travel, can later join established guilds to become a fighter, paladin, ranger, mage, monk, or thief. Class selection influences development and equipment use. Additional party members, some with predefined classes and abilities, can be recruited in various locations, allowing for a group of up to six. Character advancement involves training at specific sites to manually improve chosen attributes upon leveling up.
The structure is largely non linear, permitting free travel across Lyramion from the start. Transportation evolves from walking to include purchased horses for fording shallow water, boats, and other methods. A day night cycle affects non player character availability and shop hours. Interaction uses a multi topic conversation system, and side quests are available alongside required item gathering. An auto mapping function operates in towns, and camping consumes rations to restore health. A single, automatically overwritten save slot allows progress to be recorded at any time.
Enemies are encountered at set overworld points or as visible figures in dungeons. Combat initiates a turn based system viewed from overhead on a small grid, with a separate window showing foes. Options include tactical movement, various attacks and defenses, and a selection of ninety different spells.
