Super R-Type is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System title that continues the arcade series. Players control the R-9 spacecraft, which serves as Earth's primary defense against a hostile force known as the BYDO Empire.
The gameplay involves navigating through seven distinct stages. A key strategic element is the FORCE unit, an invincible attachment that provides both defensive coverage and enhanced offensive capabilities for the ship. Progression requires overcoming stage bosses, some of which are carried over from earlier arcade installments.
Power-up items are collected throughout the stages to increase the ship's effectiveness. The objective is to utilize these upgrades to successfully confront and defeat the returning adversaries.
