Pac-Attack Overview
Pac-Attack is a block-dropping puzzle game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, adapted from a Japanese arcade title. The core gameplay involves placing falling pieces, which consist of ghosts and blocks, to manage a playfield. A key mechanic is the periodic appearance of Pac-Man, who moves horizontally to consume ghosts and clear space. His movement direction is initially random and can change upon hitting an obstacle.
Clearing ghosts fills a meter that can summon a fairy, which removes several rows of ghosts and causes any blocks above them to fall. The game ends if the stack of pieces reaches the top of the play area. Beyond the main puzzle mode, a two-player versus mode allows competition by sending ghosts to an opponent's screen.
A dedicated Puzzle mode presents challenging pre-arranged stages, where the player must clear all ghosts using a limited number of Pac-Man characters. In this mode, the player has direct control over Pac-Man's direction. Notably, later handheld releases of the game omitted the versus mode feature.
