Frogger Overview
Frogger is an arcade action game designed for one or two alternating players. The central task involves moving a frog upward across two distinct hazardous zones to reach designated slots. A challenging progression system increases the difficulty after all slots on a level are filled.
Points are accumulated through various actions, including forward movement, delivering the frog to a goal, and collecting optional bonuses. These bonuses appear as a lady frog to escort or flies within the goal slots. The game concludes when all lives are lost, which occurs from collisions with vehicles, water, or certain creatures.
The initial stage requires crossing a road with moving traffic of different speeds. After this, the frog must traverse a river by riding on logs and turtles, as the water is immediately fatal. Some turtles submerge unpredictably, and higher levels introduce additional threats like snakes and alligators. The goal slots themselves can sometimes be obstructed by alligator heads or must be empty to be entered.
Various home console ports adapted the core experience with differing graphical fidelity. Later versions and digital re-releases sometimes modified levels, obstacles, or presentation, though the fundamental objective remained consistent across these iterations.
