Flashback: The Quest for Identity Overview
Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a cinematic platformer set in the year 2142. The protagonist, Conrad B. Hart, awakens with amnesia and must survive on an alien planet while uncovering his past.
Gameplay blends exploration and combat within large levels. Conrad can run, jump, climb, and hang from ledges, with a run-and-jump extending his reach. Defensive actions include crouching and a rolling maneuver, which are often necessary. For offense, he uses a gun with unlimited ammunition and can also employ found objects against foes. A personal shield absorbs damage but requires recharging at specific stations, making encounters challenging.
Beyond action, the experience incorporates adventure game elements. In safer areas devoid of enemies, progress involves conversing with characters, gathering clues, and solving puzzles. The presentation utilizes cutscenes, with polygonal vector graphics in most releases. Enhanced CD versions feature pre-rendered 3D animations, and the Sega CD edition includes voice acting.
