Turma da Mônica na Terra dos Monstros is a localized adaptation of the action adventure title Wonder Boy in Monster World, featuring the Brazilian comic character Mônica as the protagonist. The setting shifts to a Fantasy Land overrun by monsters, which Mônica must clear by exploring side scrolling environments.
Combat involves basic attacks and jumps, supplemented by a system for magic and special items. These are managed through an inventory screen where they are assigned to specific slots for activation. Progression is supported by collecting currency from defeated foes to purchase equipment like armor, shields, and boots.
A distinctive element is the use of stuffed rabbits as weapons, some of which replace the function of a shield by being spun defensively. Throughout her journey, Mônica is assisted by various companions from her comic series, including Cebolinha and Magali, as well as helpful creatures like a fairy and the dog Bidu.
