Sonic 2: Time Attack Overview
Sonic 2: Time Attack is a modified version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 focused on speedrunning its standard levels. The primary objective is to complete each act in the shortest time possible, with the timer halting once the level's end signpost or boss capsule is reached.
Upon first play, every level begins with a default Best Time of 9 minutes and 59.99 seconds, which the game will automatically record after an initial attempt. Subsequent playthroughs will only save a new time if it surpasses this recorded personal best. The in-game display shows the player's current time, ring count, and the existing record for comparison during a run.
Accessible from the main menu are three functions: a stage select, an options menu, and a dedicated section for reviewing records. This times menu spans two pages to clearly present all of the player's best performances across the game's levels.
