Lemmings 2: The Tribes Overview
Lemmings 2: The Tribes expands the puzzle formula by introducing twelve separate tribes, such as Egyptian, Circus, and Highland, each with its own thematic setting. The objective is to guide these tribes through a series of levels to reunite them and restore the Talisman, addressing a threat to Lemming Island.
Progress is tracked through a save system, allowing players to switch between tribes freely, which means becoming completely stuck requires failing to advance in all twelve groups. The game contains 120 levels in total, with each tribe presenting a sequence of ten stages to complete.
Gameplay involves using a wide array of specialized skills, over sixty in total, though only a subset is available in any given level. These abilities include various terrain modifiers and movement options, such as diagonal digging, horizontal bashing, and skills that enable traversal over ice. For players unfamiliar with the new mechanics, a dedicated Classic tribe uses the original skill set, and several training levels are provided for experimentation with any skill combination.
A key change from the first game is the scoring system, which now incentivizes saving every Lemming. Players can revisit completed levels to improve their results, with bronze, silver, and gold medals awarded based on the number of creatures rescued. The ultimate challenge is to achieve a perfect rescue record across all levels, which is challenging.
