Ghouls ‘N Ghosts Overview
Ghouls 'N Ghosts is a side scrolling action game where the knight Arthur must battle through five distinct stages to confront the Great Demon King Lucifer. The narrative follows Arthur's quest to restore his princess to life after she is struck down during an attack on her castle, continuing the story from the previous title.
The challenging journey takes Arthur through varied environments including graveyards, a skeletal mass, and a final castle. Movement involves navigating platforms, ladders, and hazardous terrain while combating numerous monsters. Progression is primarily horizontal, though one stage ascends vertically.
Combat centers on projectile weapons, with Arthur now capable of firing both horizontally and vertically. A key system involves treasure chests concealed in the scenery, which can be revealed and opened to yield various effects. These include new weapon types, protective golden armor, or a transformation into a vulnerable form.
Acquiring the golden armor enables a powerful charge attack unique to each weapon, such as a wide reaching lightning bolt or a duplicating spell. Weapons can also be obtained from defeated enemies, adding a layer of strategy to enemy encounters. Each stage concludes with a confrontation against a boss character.
