Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon Overview
Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon continues the story of the adventurers who defeated Xanathar. They are called upon by Archmage Khelben to investigate sinister events near Waterdeep, specifically around the Temple Darkmoon, where disappearances and graves have been reported. The party is teleported directly into this troubled forest region.
Gameplay retains the core first-person dungeon-crawling experience of the original, operating under Advanced Dungeons & Dragons second edition rules. Players control a party of four characters, which can be imported from the previous game or newly created from a selection of six classes: Fighter, Ranger, Paladin, Cleric, Mage, and Thief. Progression involves gaining levels, acquiring new spells, and navigating a challenging series of monster encounters and puzzles within maze-like, pseudo-3D environments.
The interface and real-time combat system remain largely unchanged, utilizing point-and-click controls and allowing the group to move as one unit for tactical positioning. A notable expansion from the first title is the increased use of illustrated character interactions and narrative scenes. The game world lacks an automapping feature, requiring players to chart their own course through its interconnected areas.
