Exile Overview
Exile is an action role-playing game for the Sega Genesis, functioning as a sequel to XZR. Its gameplay alternates between two distinct visual perspectives: an overhead view for world travel and exploration, and side-scrolling sections for combat and navigating dungeon mazes.
The protagonist, Sadler, is an assassin who returns to his village after a victory. His new mission involves pursuing a Crusader spy, which leads him to ally with a Templar leader. Together they journey across a fictionalized 13th-century globe, seeking a holy artifact believed to halt ongoing religious conflicts.
Character progression is handled through an experience system where defeating enemies grants points. Leveling up occurs automatically, improving Sadler's core attributes. His capabilities in combat include using swords and casting both damaging and healing spells. Economic activity is present, as towns provide venues for purchasing and selling weapons, armor, and other items.
