Curse Overview
Curse is a horizontal-scrolling shooter for the Sega Genesis, placing the player in control of a space fighter. The journey progresses through five distinct stages, each presenting hazardous settings like a volcanic underground, a city in ruins, and a jungle that has undergone mutation.
Progression through these areas is gated by the defeat of larger boss enemies that appear at set points. The core gameplay involves navigating these environments while managing an arsenal of upgradeable weapons. Collected power-ups can enhance various offensive capabilities to three levels of strength.
Available armaments include a screen-covering spread shot, a bomb that fragments on impact, and a wide shot capable of penetrating scenery. Additional support comes from homing missiles, smart bombs, a speed boost, and a deployable option that can be positioned around the ship. For defense, a shield protects against standard projectile fire, though it offers no protection from collisions with enemies or the landscape, nor from certain specialized enemy attacks.
