Raiden Overview
Raiden is a vertical scrolling shooter originally released for arcades, later ported to home systems like the Genesis and SNES where it was known as Raiden Trad. The player controls an experimental supersonic fighter developed by the World Alliance of Nations in 2090 to repel an alien invasion.
Enemy forces consist of various mechanized units resembling modified tanks and aircraft. The core gameplay involves navigating overhead levels while engaging these foes, with progression culminating in confrontations with large boss ships. To manage the challenging enemy waves, the player has access to a limited supply of screen clearing bombs for emergency use.
Offensive capabilities are defined by two primary weapon systems that can be upgraded, alongside a choice between standard and homing missile types. These systems provide the main tools for combating the alien warships throughout the mission.
