Terminator 2: Judgment Day Overview
Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a home console adaptation of an arcade rail-shooter. Its seven stages are structured to follow the film's narrative, beginning with a series of missions set in a future war before a time jump shifts the action to the present day. Players control robotic assassins now fighting for the human resistance.
The primary armament is a machine gun with unlimited ammunition, though its rate of fire diminishes if sustained, a mechanic framed as overheating. This can be mitigated by collecting coolant power-ups found in the environment. For greater impact, a secondary weapon is available, switching from missile launchers in the future to shotguns in the present, but its ammunition is finite and must also be gathered from the stages.
Licensed assets from the movie are incorporated, including Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice and digital portraits of Robert Patrick's T-1000 character for a climactic boss encounter. Certain home versions offered compatibility with console-specific light guns. The level progression moves from assaulting the enemy AI, SkyNet, to protecting key characters and eliminating its research, culminating in a confrontation at a steel mill.
