Smash T.V. is a shoot-em-up where players control combatants in a violent televised contest. The setting is a series of arenas populated by numerous hostile creatures and robots.
Gameplay involves using a two-joystick control method to navigate these environments while shooting. The objective is to eliminate enemies and collect cash and prizes, which include various consumer goods and vacations. This design shares a frantic style with the earlier game Robotron: 2084, also created by Eugene Jarvis.
The experience is presented with a tone that includes overt violence and a hint of satire. A two-player cooperative mode is a featured component of the game.
