Gyruss Overview
Gyruss is an arcade shooter where the player controls a spaceship defending the solar system from an alien force. The objective involves traveling to nine planets, each requiring the completion of three combat stages to be secured.
Movement in this game is distinct, as the ship travels along a circular path around the screen's edge rather than moving in straight lines. The player begins with a basic weapon but can upgrade to a double cannon by destroying specific power-up satellites. After liberating a planet, a bonus stage offers opportunities to collect extra weapons and points.
The Nintendo Entertainment System port expands on the arcade original with added musical tracks, new enemy types, and more weapon options. Each level concludes with a confrontation against a large boss enemy.
