Hit the Ice: The Video Hockey League Overview
Hit the Ice: The Video Hockey League presents a simplified, three-on-three version of hockey where physical checking is a central mechanic. The objective remains to score goals, but the gameplay is notably aggressive and disregards standard rules like penalties.
Matches are fast-paced and feature a powerful super shot capable of knocking the goalie into the net along with the puck. The available modes include exhibition and tournament play, supporting one or two participants. Two players can also cooperate against computer-controlled opponents.
Platform-specific variations exist, such as a four-player option in the TurboGrafx-16 release. The Game Boy version introduces a distinct shot race mode, which tasks the player with scoring a set number of goals against the clock.
