Rambo Overview
Rambo is a side scrolling platform game where the player controls the Special Forces soldier John Rambo. The narrative begins with his extraction from a military prison for a reconnaissance mission in Vietnam, where he is to photograph a POW camp without engaging the enemy.
Gameplay involves navigating a complex map where directional markers on the ground indicate where the player can move between levels. The primary challenge comes from hostile wildlife and enemy personnel encountered across jungles, swamps, and caves. Enemies vary in strength, often indicated by their clothing, and can attack with kicks or gunfire.
Rambo can utilize six different weapons, most of which have limited ammunition collected from defeated foes. These range from a basic knife to bows, guns, and grenades. To progress, the player must also locate specific mission items and health restoratives. The game uses a password system for saving progress, which is obtained through interactions with non player characters.
The mission's parameters shift when Rambo chooses to rescue a prisoner, directly disobeying his orders. This decision escalates the conflict, moving the objective beyond simple reconnaissance.
