Quarterback Overview
John Elway's Quarterback is an American football video game offering single-game competition. Matches can be played by one person against the computer or by two human opponents directly.
The game uses a simplified representation of the sport, with teams distinguished only by blue and red uniforms. Each side fields nine players. Control is assigned to specific positions: the human player operates the quarterback during offensive possessions and the middle linebacker when on defense.
Gameplay unfolds from a top-down perspective that scrolls vertically. The available strategic options consist of nine offensive plays, which heavily favor passing, and six defensive play selections. A full match consists of four quarters, each lasting fifteen minutes of accelerated real-time play.
Teams are selected by choosing a home city, as the absence of an official license means no real-world NFL teams or players are featured.
