Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat Overview
Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat is a racing game for the NES that uses the 1988 IndyCar champion's name and follows a Super Sprint style of play. The objective involves progressing through a series of nine tracks, culminating in a final event known as the Tradewest Speed Bowl. This last track is notably longer and awards double points, mirroring the real-world importance of the Indianapolis 500.
Gameplay revolves around managing a car's condition and resources during races that feature four vehicles. Players must monitor fuel levels and avoid damage, as both factors will degrade performance. Pit stops are available to repair the car and replenish fuel. A turbo boost provides a temporary speed advantage but must be used judiciously, as it can also be recharged in the pits for a cost.
Financial rewards are earned based on finishing position, with higher placements yielding more money. This currency is then invested between races into various upgrades. These improvements can include enhanced engine power, better brakes, or the acquisition of additional turbo units, allowing for strategic development of the vehicle over the course of the championship.
