Gauntlet IV Overview
Gauntlet 2 is a home console adaptation of the arcade title, expanding on the original with several distinct ways to play. The core experience involves selecting one of four fantasy characters, each with unique strengths and weaknesses, for cooperative dungeon exploration.
Beyond the direct arcade translation, additional modes alter the fundamental objectives. One mode shifts the focus to a structured campaign where players conquer four towers from a central hub, using collected gold and experience to purchase equipment and improve their character's capabilities. Another transforms the game into a competitive arena where participants fight each other, with environmental features like teleporters and monsters influencing the matches.
A third option modifies the standard arcade rules by replacing character death with a penalty system, where health loss deducts from the player's score, and it also implements a password-based continue function. The game supports multiplayer sessions for up to four participants through the use of a specific peripheral.
