G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor Overview
G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor is a side scrolling platform game where the player controls members of the Joe Team. Their objective is to stop Cobra, which has raised the lost city of Atlantis to serve as a new base for world conquest.
Progress involves navigating a network of 22 levels across three branching paths, with some shortcuts and the ability to backtrack. Level designs include straightforward platforming, mazes, and objectives requiring specific items to be found, interspersed with boss confrontations.
While General Hawk is the initial character, successfully completing levels unlocks additional team members. Each has unique attributes, such as jump height and health, and a special ability like underwater movement or firing in any direction. Before a level, the player selects from the unlocked roster.
Combat utilizes a weapon system beginning with a machine gun. Four other armaments can be acquired, each usable by any character. These weapons have four power levels, increased by collecting items from defeated foes. Character progression is individual, meaning each must improve their own weapons separately.
Support is provided by non playable allies unlocked through gameplay, who offer services like healing, ammunition, or information. The game uses a password save system based on a grid of letters and numbers.
