Fantasy Zone Overview
Fantasy Zone is a shooter where players control a ship to clear planets of hostile creatures. The setting involves a solar system under threat from the Menons, who are using stolen currency to build military strength. A primary objective is to reclaim these coins while eliminating enemies across multiple colorful worlds.
Progression requires destroying a set number of enemy bases on each planet, which then unlocks a boss encounter. The number of bases varies between different releases of the game. Players can find shops to spend coins on ship upgrades, such as enhanced weapons and improved engine speed.
Several home console and computer ports introduced modifications. For instance, some versions reduced the base count or altered boss designs. One port included a special mode where collecting letters could unlock a bonus stage featuring bosses from another game. A later handheld release added configurable options for difficulty and ship capabilities, along with a mode featuring a different playable character with a unique weapon system and ending.
