Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball Overview
Dusty Diamond's All Star Softball is a sports simulation for the NES where players assemble their own team from a large pool of unique characters. The roster consists of sixty individuals, each possessing different abilities that extend beyond standard baseball skills.
Matches are seven innings long and can be played using either fast-pitch or slow-pitch rules. Pitching mechanics vary between these modes, offering control over speed and ball trajectory. Defensive play includes options for diving catches and strategic throws to execute double plays.
The primary single-player objective is a challenging five-game tournament against computer opponents. Success here grants a match against a final championship team. A two-player versus mode is also available for direct competition.
Team construction is a key element, as there are no default clubs. Forming a ten-player squad requires selecting athletes whose special talents, like fence climbing or night flying, are suited to the game's six unconventional fields. These venues range from a simple sandlot to a professional stadium.
