Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum casts the player as an explorer on a distant planet. The primary objective involves navigating a series of rooms to gather every available object before returning to the ship.
This task is made challenging by a depleting oxygen supply, a resource further drained by contact with the planet's alien inhabitants. The environment is a multi-level structure explored through two distinct visual perspectives: a top-down view for elevator shafts and a side-scrolling view for the rooms themselves.
Progression relies on locating specific items, such as bombs and keys, which unlock new areas within a floor. Some levels contain concealed rooms offering bonuses, and elevators may provide shortcuts or unexpectedly send the player to lower levels.
