Wizardry Gaiden Overview
Wizardry Gaiden is a standalone Game Boy entry in the series, developed by ASCII and released exclusively in Japan. The narrative centers on a quest to defeat the mage Thailand Rossum and locate Queen Iris's missing sister, Sorx, as the protective Staff of Gnilda weakens.
Players assemble a party of up to six characters from familiar series classes and races, such as fighters and wizards. The entire adventure takes place within a six-floor dungeon explored from a first-person perspective, involving random encounters and experience-based progression.
Its gameplay systems are derived from the console versions of Wizardry, most closely resembling Wizardry V. It incorporates several mechanical additions, including enhanced spells, long-range weapons, and an integrated auto-mapping feature. This auto-map removes the necessity for external graph paper, a requirement in earlier series titles.
