Ayakashi no Shiro Overview

Alt. Names: あやかしの城

Ayakashi no Shiro is a first-person role-playing game structured around dungeon exploration. Its narrative framework is set in feudal Japan during the Sengoku period, where a ninja is dispatched to infiltrate a castle. This mission is to recover a legendary sword, the only weapon capable of stopping a resurrected sorcerer who has betrayed the shogunate and now commands summoned monsters.

The core activity involves navigating multiple castle areas, which together comprise numerous levels. Progression is achieved through turn-based combat against monsters, which yields experience to improve the ninja's capabilities. The player manages an inventory that includes weapons, restorative potions, and utility items such as a cloak for invisibility. Maps for each level can be discovered to aid navigation.

Beyond physical items, the ninja can employ a selection of mystic arts. These twelve spells serve various functions in combat, such as damaging foes, inflicting status conditions like paralysis, or healing the ninja. The game allows for saving progress and accessing stored items at points between the castle's five main areas.
